I read the article and while it could be long QT syndrome that is the cause of these deaths, I think it's because triathlons have become more popular and more people are entering them who haven't trained well-enough for them. Even for those who have trained, I would think the percentages of death are the same as before, there's just more because there's more participants. As far as the deaths occurring in the water, that makes sense in the fact that water is not very forgiving compared to land. You stop swimming and you go under water where you can't breathe. You stop biking or running and you hit the ground where you can still breathe.
