One of Canada's most decorated athletes says this country's collective hand-wringing over the lack of Olympic medals is based on a mistaken belief that the country has a strong sports culture.
"We have this perception that we are into sports, that we're a sports-minded country, but when you look at it, inactivity and obesity are a real challenge in this country and the sports we follow are professional male sports," says Silken Laumann, a three-time Olympic medallist.

I dont know much about how much Canada is really into our sport , but it would be great to see some marathoners in 2012 eh, men and women , medal or no medal , just to be there is amazing

I think the U.S. are less active and more obese. But the U.S. also has more people and as a result has more athletes. I think inactivity and obesity is a problem throughout the world, not just North America.
