The Canadian Press is reporting that a life-sized likeness of the two-time Boston Marathon winner Johnny Miles will be unveiled Friday during a special ceremony on the grounds of Jubilee Elementary School in Sydney Mines, N.S., where Miles was raised.
Miles, who died in 2003 at the age of 97, broke the world record in his first Boston Marathon in 1926. He returned to run the marathon on four occasions, winning again in 1929.
Miles was a member of the Canadian Olympic track team in 1928 and 1932, where he placed 16th and 14th respectively in the marathon. He also won a bronze medal as a member of Canada's 1930 British Empire Games track team.
